But I don't mind, since I have to walk over to the ps3 and put the movie in, then take it out. Some people complain because it doesn't power the ps3 on and off. I bought this to work in tandem with my logitech harmony 880 remote. Works like a champ.
I didn't believe something this low priced could possibly work but, with a minor tweak in the programming I can now put my PS remote in the box with all the others I've replaced with Harmony. Plug baby into your PS3 USB port and you will be able to use your Harmony remote.
If you don't have a universal remote and you just want a remote for your PS3, just buy the PS3 specific BlueTooth remote and save your money on this. You can turn off your PS3 by going into the Cross Media Bar (XMB) and navigating to power off, but it's still not something that is optimal.Another problem I have had with this is that when using the controller itself or using my universal remote, it very often thinks I'm pressing left or right more than once. It does not matter how your turn on your PS3, it will always think your remote is player 1 and you will have to go through this when you want to play a game.Other than those complaints, this remote does its job. Luckily I don't use my USB slots for much and I have four, but just be warned if you plan to use them, new PS3's come with only two USB slots and this will always sit in one of them.My last major complaint, and this is a pretty huge one for me, is that having the USB dongle stuck in your PS3 at all times makes the PS3 thing the remote is the controller for player 1 when you power on the PS3.
I bought this because like many people my universal remote does not with the PS3. If you have a universal remote and want something cheap, this does the job but you will get exactly what you pay for. Now, that said, there is a new product from Logitech called Logitech PS3 Remote Adapter that does a much better job, but is also $60. It's cheap and it allows you to control your PS3 with a universal remote. At first, this remote seemed like a Godsend but then I realized it really isn't that great at all.The most noticeable problem with this remote is that it cannot turn on and off your PS3 with the press of a button.
Most games make you play with controller 1 so in order to play a game you have to turn on your controller, power it off, and then power it on again to make the PS3 recognize it as player 1. If you want to spend money, go with that, otherwise just use this remote. You still either have to keep a controller handy or get up and manually turn it on. This makes it very difficulty to navigate movie menus and to navigate the XMB.This remote will also always take up one of your USB slots.
Comparing to a Bluetooth control (working as an RF control), you can practically point to anywhere and it still works. For those of you who complaint about the buttons are not being responsive. In addition, if there is something in the front of it (e.g., pole, chair, coffee cup, etc) it will not work. (The Sony BD Remote Control has the PS button) You have to walk to your PS3 everytime you want to turn it on. I bought this Blu Wave Remote at Fry's Electronics in California and the Sony BD Remote Control from Amazon and here is the comparison:BLU WAVE REMOTE (from Nykyo):Pluses - 1) small, cute, stylistMinuses - 1) Since it uses an USB port for the infrared dong, it takes away one of your USB's.
I usually buy both and see what works for me. I just want people out there to know what they are getting into, especially when you are reading mix reviews and don't know what to buy. Then you can use your Blu Wave Remote, so what is the purpose of remote control.SONY BD REMOTE CONTROL:Pluses: 1) Design to work with PS3 with buttons which exercise all the important functions of Blu-ray DVD.2) Easy to synch with your PS3 (take me 1 minute)3) You can practically point anywhere and it still work. So no big deal.BTW, I don't work for Nykyo or Sony. Most of your setting would be about 6-10 feet from your TV/PS3 and a blue tooth control would do just fine.3) This is the deal breaker so I am going to take it back to Fry's. The PS3 button wakes up your remote control if it is in power saver/sleep mode.Minuses:1) Buttons are not as nice/stylist as Nykyo Blue Wave, but they are standard made like most of remote controls on market. But be realistic here; unless you are one of those millionaire with a living like a football stadium, you also don't have this need. That is what the PS3 button is for.
For those of you with the 2nd generation of PS3, where you only have two USB port, you have to think about this issue carefully when you start adding accessories to your PS3 (e.g., external USB harddrive, the Eye, USB remote keyboard and mouse, etc)2) Although it claims that you can control from 25 feet away, the catch is you have to point directly to the dong; otherwise it does not work. Duh. Now getting back on the 25 feet control claim, I did not test this because I don't have this need. It does not have the PS button, which allows you turn on your PS3 remotely.
i like the remote because i dont remember which buttons on the controller to use since i dont use it that much but husband seems to prefer the controller. honestly though my husband continues to use the ps3 controller instead for some reason. at first it seemed to have a delay when using it, but i dont notice it now. not sure if its because of the distance from the console when using it, but it does work well, just cannot use it to turn off ps3.
